About the event
FREE EVENT - All ages
Canmore Chess Club (www.chessempire.ca) is a grassroots organization that aims to promote chess in Banff, Canmore, Mînî Thnî and across Canada. We are promoting a chess community with a culture based on friendliness over competitiveness. We value kindness, inclusivity and sportsmanship. All ages and all skill levels are welcome (so far, our youngest chess player is a four-year-old, and our oldest is 79). We will offer free lessons to beginners.
Please stop by any time - you may arrive late or early. Of course, you may bring your own set if you prefer, but we have chess sets to lend during the event.
Chess is a sport celebrated for more than a millennium for its unique ability to bring people together and help personal wellness.Â
Did you know grandmasters can lose up to 10lbs just by sitting in front of a chess game during a tournament? The brain needs those calories to help the neurotransmitters to fire up, especially during a complex task such as chess.
Thank you, Town of Canmore and Canmore Public Library, for helping us find this venue. Thank you to Save-on-Foods and Starbucks for providing us with food and drinks. Thank you, Bow Valley Food Alliance, for helping us connect and build relationships with the community. Thank you to the Alberta Chess Association for sponsoring us with chess sets. Thank you to all community members for keeping us alive.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
