About the event
We are still growing. We can't fit at Elevation Place so we have to find another venue. We've decided to host the games at Canmore Recreation Centre at a bigger facility. It's Tuesday, March 29 at 6 PM. Please RSVP on our website. the address of Canmore Recreation Centre is 1900 8th Ave.
Thank you for your kind understanding of the changes we encounter as we establish our club.
We promote kindness, respect, humility, diversity, motivation, sportsmanship, and teamwork in our events. This is a friendly vibe and everyone is welcome to join us. Advanced chess players are encouraged to observe the tournament rules. We have a few chess timers now and there are also free chess timer phone apps available. It is encouraged but not mandatory.
Beginners can play casually to encourage further learning. We have volunteers who are also willing to teach chess to new learners. Please bring your own chess boards but we have a few extra ones to lend.
Because we rent the venue, buy snacks, pizzas, and operate the club we will ask for donations at a minimum of $7.00 to be dropped in our donation can or Interac e-transfer to canmorechessclub@gmail.com. Donations are voluntary so everyone is welcome to participate. Please don't be discouraged if you are unable to donate. However, if you're able to donate, we ask you to be generous to help out the club with future expenses.
During the events, people bring treats and coffee. Starbucks has always been kind bringing us pastries, coffee and hot chocolate every week. Premier Hotel has also donated chess boards and timers. Canadian tire also gave us 4 chess boards. We welcome more sponsors and people helping out.
Yes we will welcome Rubik's cubers to join us since we will have a big venue, we will open a table for the cubers and eventually they can start their own club too. We may also learn a thing or two crossing spatial skills between Chess and Rubik's cube.
Volunteers are welcome to arrive earlier help set up and stay after the game to help pack up.
Thank you for your continuous support of this community initiative. We will see you soon!
